Why NAM?
NAM is an acronym for Northeast Addiction and Mental Health, but it has a deeper meaning too. The sound (pronounced “Naam”) means “identity” and is the root sound for “name”. We all have an authentic identity. We can see it in children and it is wonderful to behold. As we interact with the external environment – through our parents, families, events and circumstances – our concept of who we are becomes hazy. The combination of our genetics and our specific circumstances results in dysfunctional thinking patterns that support expectations of ourselves that are not real. The what, when and how of this results in the various manifestation of mental illness, addiction and chronic pain. What would have been a minor disability becomes a major one. What would have been an overcomable obstacle becomes paralyzing. Pain that was bearable now becomes unbearable.
At NAM, we provide coaching towards holistic wellness so that you may discover your authentic self.
