We’re reaching out today with an urgent plea for help. As of January 1, 2025, NAM will run out of operational funds. This means that the vital services we provide—services that have changed lives and reunited families—might have to close.
Why this matters:
Since 2018, NAM has been a lifeline for many in Calgary, particularly for South Asian community members who have nowhere else to turn. We are the only licensed addiction treatment provider in Alberta that specializes in culturally competent care for South Asians. Our approach works: 55% to 70% of those we serve achieve sobriety within 12 months, depending on the type of addiction. These aren’t just numbers; they represent individuals, families, and futures saved from the grip of addiction.
We’ve been able to operate up until now thanks to grant funding from various government levels, but unfortunately, because we are a licensed treatment provider, granting agencies have stepped back. They believe this should be a provincial government responsibility. For over two years, we’ve been working closely with the Government of Alberta to secure operational funding, and while we’re hopeful, we do not know when or if this will come through. In the meantime, the clock is ticking.
What’s at stake:
Without funding, NAM’s doors will close, and with them, the hope we provide to hundreds of people each year. Once programs shut down, restarting them is nearly impossible. Our staff—those who tirelessly dedicate themselves to this mission—could be laid off, and we risk losing everything we’ve worked so hard to build.
What we need:
To keep NAM open, we need to raise $1,000,000 in the next 12 months. The first $250,000 must be raised by December 31, 2024 to ensure we can continue offering services into the new year. By October 2025, we aim to secure the remaining $750,000.
Why your help matters:
This funding will allow us to provide care to 400 individuals struggling with addiction and offer support to 720 family members in 2025 alone. Imagine the ripple effect this could have—changing lives, rebuilding families, and offering a second chance to those who need it most.
How you can help:
Please consider making a donation to NAM today. Even a small contribution can help us bridge this critical gap. Additionally, we encourage you to speak with your elected officials and advocate for government support for NAM. Together, we can ensure NAM continues its Seva—selfless service—within our community, helping people overcome addiction and find hope again.
